Back Into the Swing of Things

I’m getting back into the swing of things here at home.  This means there is so much to do that I was able to leave behind over the weekend.  I logged into World of Warcraft yesterday and did my dailies.  I was almost too tired to do that, but, I knew it would help ease me into my attempt to get back into routine.  I also took Autoshotmoo to the weekly raid which was in Naxx this week.  Oh Naxx, sometimes I do miss you and your creepy bugs.  I remember when we were standing in front of the spider wing for the first time.  I did not get to do the raid in Vanilla WoW, so, it was all new to me.  I think the fights there reminded me of Karazhan and I absolutely learned to love that instance as well.  I think that Ice Crown Citadel and many others are really good.  But for some reason, I think instances like Naxx were able to spark our imaginations in a different way.

Last night, well let’s be honest World of Warcraft hunters, every night is our gear.  It doesn’t matter if it’s cloth, leather, mail, or plate.  We want to roll on it because we want new stuff.  THE MAN, he only lets you roll on agility mail and agility/attack power necklace, bracelets, and trinkets.  However, I was fortunate to get the belt drop from Marrowgar.  Up until last night, he dropped the sword every time.  I was also fortunate enough to have saved up for my second piece of Tier 10 gear.  This is my helmet, AKA I am now a Rhinoceros Beetle.  The helmet is awesome, don’t get me wrong.  However, I am extremely disappointed there is no ‘Use: Impale someone like a rhino’.  My Tier 10 bonus at two pieces is to be able to get a bonus to pet/hunter damage with autoshots.  After gemming everything I got, my gear score saw a nice happy raise, so, I hope my DPS does too!

What Didn’t I Do Yesterday

Yesterday, I kept a busy gaming day.  Work was not bad, but, it was busy and I needed to find some down time when it was over.  I worked with some very difficult character generation on FiranMUX.  I got some dailies down on Autoshotmoo, in WoW.  My Oracle egg only yielded yet another Tickbird hatchling.  My goal is to supply the entire game with one of these.  That way, everyone can feel the Tickbird hatchling joy that I do.  At some point, probability suggests that I will get the Green Protodrake mount.  However, I’m not sure probability works for me on World of Warcraft.  I’m sort of anti-probable.  During last Noblegarden, I got three bunny pets (all soulbound) and it took me huge amounts of the weekend to get something as simple as the pants.

I nearly got in the Spider Temple in Overlord II.  Nearly, because a surprise gauntlet mechanic took me by surprise, and I died and had to start all over again.  And I was mad, of course, and did not start over again.  Instead, I put in Dragon Age.  I had not even taken one character out of the introduction story, but, I managed to through Ostagar yesterday.  If you’ve never played, this doesn’t mean much.  Just go, wow you actually got through the introduction to a game!  GO YOU!  That’s how slow I am.

I’ve also been tending my Viva Pinata garden.  My second one, I’ve played it on the Xbox 360.  I am replaying it on the PC, because, I admit the controls with the mouse make it a better game.  It’s so much easier to achieve with being able to move around with a mouse, that, I don’t think I’d go back to the 360 game.  Sorry Xbox 360, I’m a huge console fan, but, this one wins.

Busy Gaming Weekend

I had a busy gaming weekend, but, a good one.  I was able to get Mr. Pinchy on my hunter in World of Warcraft, thereby getting done with yet another difficult achievement.  Our guild did really well and made progress on Professor Putricide.  I was able to get Viva Pinata and Torchlight for $4.99.  Both are excellent deals and I’m excited to have some more play time with both.

I also buckled down into my long forgot Overlord II game.  I’m no expert gamer, something, I don’t hesitate to admit.  However, I can tell that I’ve learned a lot of skill.  I’m definitely not someone who it comes easy to.  I have to work at it and throw myself up against it over and over again until I can beat something.  For me, I will never be the expert gamer who can brag about defeating things on insane.  However, despite the fact that it takes me longer and sometimes I’m playing games from 1994, I find that I can still bring them up and talk about them with those that played them before and it’s an enjoyable experience.

I had a great time this week, but, I was glad to get settled back into home.  While I was gone, I did miss playing World of Warcraft.  With the next patch on the horizon, battlegrounds sound like a fun opportunity and one I want to get my hands on.  Random battleground gives you bonuses for using it and also randomly selects one.  With more people doing more variety, I think there will be more chances to learn and fail in each and every battleground.  It will also let me nearly complete my cooking achievements.  I still have to serve a feast in a variety of battlegrounds, so, I may be more motivated to do that.  After that, there’s still my Chef’s hat left.  Chef Autoshotmoo sounds like a psychotic hot dog stand.

Stuck In a Moment

One thing that is true about my personality, I am prone to action paralysis.  It comes in one of two flavors.  Flavor one is that there are so many choices of things to do and so little time.  In this case, I’ll just sit there and do nothing.  Flavor two is when things get difficult or overwhelming and in that case nothing happens as well.  Rationally, I understand that if I’m burnt out on gathering badges that I just don’t run instances and do something else.  Irrationally there’s some internal-only idea that it’s what you do and you have to do it.  Then, I’ll just sit there.

I’ve been trying to get over that paralysis everywhere in my life, but, it also applies to games and gaming.  They are hobbies, so, why shouldn’t I just decide to go on to something that doesn’t feel like work.  I’ve been more willing to do that as of late.  I am enjoying achieving things at my own pace much better.  Playing Star Trek Online, I’m still at the first level of LC, but when I play, I have a lot of fun with it.  In World of Warcraft, if I don’t want to grind Argent dailies, then, I pick something else.

So what is on board for tonight?  Guild holiday, of course.  This is when our World of Warcraft guild lets our hair down after a long week.  Usually, we run an old world raid for reputation or to get an achievement.  Who knows what we will run tonight?  Karazhan?  AQ40?  Maybe, I will see if we can do Magtherodon.  I don’t even know if I spelled that right and I’m going to be a rebel and refuse to look it up.

End of Resolution Days

I have failed to update my blog as much as I like. I have been so behind on everything and this morning I made the effort to catch up. Let’s see how this goes! At the height of my attempts to balance everything, I was sleeping better at night and so much more active. Since December, we worked so hard on Firan for the Kinslayer War. The bulk of this has been resolved and we just officially finished Resolution Day yesterday. It’s such a good feeling. I think it proved if we could run that high and hot for 3 months that if we backed it off to medium…the game can still be interesting and fun without full burn out.

So what does one do now? I’ve been getting a renewed interest in World of Warcraft. I have lost the desire to grind out instances for badges, but, I did level a little bit and do some achievements. I think I’m going to work on Bennett’s mining some here; it can be relaxing to run in a circle gathering minerals. I got my Star Trek character to LC which means I get a cooler ship with keen powers. I haven’t had an opportunity to try them out, yet. I may wrestle the Xbox back from Bill, who is playing lots of Mass Effect 2, so I can continue my Overlord 2 game. I also have Quake 4 and Assassin’s Creed. Yes, there is a II. Yes, I am the slowest gamer in the world. I like the savor the experience, OKAY.

We are clearing to Saurfang Jr. pretty regularly now. I’m happy for that and the chest piece I got last night. I need to gem it before my Shaman leader gets angry. You wouldn’t want to see him angry.

This Week in World of Warcraft

January 6th, 2010 Posted 1:02 pm

The holidays are gone.  I was gone for most of them so I felt like I was playing a bit of catch up when I got back into it.  My hunter has a fair good number of gear upgrades.  I could afford to upgrade my chest piece to T9 from T8, but, I haven’t felt rushed about it.  I’m nearly there, so it’s only a matter of time.  I’m still trying to get the Orca Harpoon from Heroic Halls of Reflection.  I’m starting to believe I can get a better weapon from raiding at this point before I get that drop.  Autoshotmoo has also found 93% of the Inscriptions in the game.  I’m hoping to make that 100% in time for Cataclysm.  Bit by bit, I have been delving into my Exploration achievement and I almost have this one complete.

I started tanking again after a long break since May 2009.  Even in just my T7, it feels like a different game.  Sometimes, I still mess up, but, considering we made it through Regular Halls of Reflection on my level 200 gear…I think it’s not so bad after all.  I got off my butt and did some Jewelcrafting dailies.  I know everything will be replaced in Cataclysm, but, gathering patterns gives me a sense of satisfaction.

Before January is over,  I also want to get my mage one piece of T9.  I realize that stuff falls from the sky these days; this in no way means I’m not going to enjoy it.  Tyrolos also gave me some enchanting supplies.  I’m hoping to get some sweet points of Tailoring and make my Epic Flying Carpet along the way.

Finally, I have the leveling bug.  It was on my Resolution list to level Mewmoo to 80 before Cataclysm.  I’m at 75, so, if I delve into it every chance I get…well, I think it will definitely happen.

World of Warcraft 2010: Resolutions

Today, I was thinking of my wish list of things that I want to complete in World of Warcraft.  I thought I’d write it down so I don’t forget:

  1. PUG with 100 random people using Dungeon Finder on Autoshotmoo
  2. Save up enough gold to get my Mechanohog on Autoshotmoo
  3. Get at least two pieces of my T9 on my Mage before Cataclysm
  4. Level my mining and blacksmithing on my Paladin to at least 425
  5. See Mewmoo (my feral druid) hit level 80

It’s a big list.  I’m not sure I can complete it all but it will be fun trying!

Do You Know Your Lore?

Last night, I finished Loremaster of the Eastern Kingdoms.  550/550 all finished and nicely wrapped up.  I have to tell you that it took a while, but, Eastern Kingdoms was not as painful as I expected it to be in World of Warcraft.  I had a significant number of quests left over, which I immediately dropped in celebration.  It’s the most work I have ever done for ten achievement points.  I must say that I think it’s odd that you only get ten for all that.  But, you also get ten for loving some squirrels.  It really is odd?

Next, I am off the Kalimdor.  I managed to get 568 out of 685 last night.  I have a few more to do in Silithus and then I will have dried up the easy to find quests in every location but the major cities.  I’m on the downhill side of this with 117 quests left.  I’ll be done with this challenge by Christmas and on to new ones!
